FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Newmarket School to Career Partnership Receives Donation for Student-Produced Photography Project of Newmarket Historic District
Thanks to funding from the Main Street Corporation, the Hallmark Institute of Photography, the Newmarket Historical Society, The Boston Educational Network, and the Advisory Heritage Commission, Newmarket students interested in Photography as a career will have an opportunity to participate in a new initiative. The purpose of the grant is to highlight Newmarket’s designation as a site on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior. As the town celebrates the completion of downtown infrastructure renovations, students involved in this project will compile a collection of photos of Historic District properties which will ultimately be displayed at the schools, Town Hall, and other public places. Facilitation of the actual photographic work will be coordinated by Mike Puiia, owner of Fine Day Photography, in collaboration with School to Career Coordinator, Nancy Winterbottom.
School to Career is a concept/program which encourages students to become involved in ‘real life’ experiences such as job shadows and internships so that they can make realistic and well-informed decisions about career planning while still in high school. This grant meshes perfectly with the philosophy of School to Career: to help students explore careers and acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Based on the idea that learning happens in many places and with many people, School to Career makes learning relevant and meaningful.
